Suboxone is a medication used to treat opioid dependency. Opioid addiction is deadly, and the number of people struggling and overdosing because of this illness continues to rise. Suboxone treatment is one of the most commonly prescribed medications used to treat opioid addiction.

Suboxone comes either as a tablet that gets placed under the tongue or as a film that is placed on the cheek. The medication is a combination of the drugs buprenorphine and naloxone. It helps ease the body off of opioid addiction and aids with opioid withdrawal.

While Suboxone helps with withdrawal, it does have a few side effects of its own. Most of these side effects disappear or diminish after a few doses. The most common side effects are:

  • Fainting or lightheadedness
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Sleepiness
  • Trouble sleeping or insomnia
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Upset stomach
  • Sweating or chills
  • Numb mouth
  • Swollen or painful tongue
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Blurry vision
  • Back pain

Many symptoms associated with suboxone can also be the result of opioid withdrawal. Although some of the suboxone side effects can be unpleasant, they are must more bearable than non-medically assisted withdrawal.
